Michael and Linda MacDonald
A mixed German Shepherd, Hobo, brought Linda into the world of dog obedience in 1971. She has since titled 2 mini Poodles, 1 Sheltie and 7 Goldens, two of which earned their OTCH and were GRCA Obedience Hall of Famers. Linda’s Golden, Miss Ellie, also a UDX, earned nine tournament placements and made the National rating systems several years in a row. At eleven years of age she earned her NA agility title. Linda began judging obedience in 1989. She has since been honored to judge several National Obedience Tournaments including the prestigious AKC National Invitational. In 1992 she was honored to participate on the AKC Obedience Advisory Committee that formulated the new UDX title. She is currently showing a Golden, Ice in agility and recently earned the Excellent Standard (AX) and Jumpers (AXJ) titles. Linda is a monthly columnist for Front & Finish, an Obedience Magazine and an active member in the DWDOA, the World Series of Obedience Sponsor.
Michael became interested in the sport of dogs about 3 years after they were married. He has trained two of the top Golden Retrievers in the history of the sport. His first dog, a female, Sadie, and a male, Sixpak have placed Mike in the National Obedience Rating systems every year since 1985. Fifteen years is quite an accomplishment. In 1995, at the age of 3, Sixpak won the “Superdog” title and in 1997 he won Delaney, First and Foremost and beat more dogs in competition than anyone in the country while also capturing the most High in Trials and High Combined Awards that year. Michael has won over 200 High in Trial Awards and over 140 High Combined Awards. Michael’s female, Sadie produced the top obedience litter in Golden history with 5 dogs earning their OTCH/UDX titles, another earning a UD title and yet another earning a CDX/TDX title. This litter produced, Linda’s Ellie and her brother Rocky, a multi-Superdog winner and also a Top sire of obedience dogs including Lynn Heidinger’s Toast a National Obedience Champion, NOC. Sixpak currently has several young get just beginning their careers but already accumulating points that will make him a top producing sire. Michael served on the AKC’s 1999 Advisory Committee which recently formulated many changes to the Obedience Regulations.
Together Linda and Michael have contributed a lot to the sport they love. They were part of the core group that sponsored the 1989 Gaines Eastern Regional in 1989 and several years ago resurrected the failing World Series Tournament by raising large funds in a few months. In 1988 they save the fading Cleveland All-Breed Training Club by moving it from downtown Cleveland out to Brooklyn Heights and designing a training program that has made it a premier training club in our area. Their dedication to the sport by assisting the AKC and serving on the Advisory Committees has proved time and time again that they care.
